Skin aging & sagging

An overview of skin aging and sagging concerns and the general categories of lifting and tightening treatment used in Singapore.

As skin ages it gradually loses firmness and elasticity, and laxity can appear around the cheeks, jawline and neck. This page explains the general categories of treatment people consider — it is general information for your research only, not medical advice.

What contributes to it

Aging is the main factor, but sun exposure and lifestyle also play a part, which is why sun protection and skincare are usually part of any plan. How visible the change is, and what (if anything) to do about it, is personal.

General categories of treatment

Options span a wide range and differ a lot in how invasive they are:

  • Topical and preventive — skincare and consistent sun protection.
  • Energy-based, non-surgical — treatments such as HIFU (focused ultrasound) or radiofrequency, which are regulated as medical devices by the Health Sciences Authority and should be used under a registered medical practitioner.
  • Surgical — for some people, surgical options are more appropriate.

The Singapore Medical Council’s guidelines classify aesthetic procedures by the strength of the clinical evidence behind them. Understanding where a treatment sits — and getting a doctor’s assessment — matters more than any single marketing claim.

What to ask

  • Is this treatment suitable for my skin and goals, and what does the evidence say?
  • Is the clinic HCSA-licensed and the doctor SMC-registered? (See how we verify.)

For one treatment often discussed for laxity, see HIFU.
